I don’t generally do the news or other things – because everyone else does it so well. But I think these two things are worth mentioning.

Seoul has a new symbol/mascot, named Haechi. So far the general reaction I’ve heard has been – wth is that?
I have to put this here because well. It’s so odd. =D

Also – Mad Cow Disease is a bigggg big issue here right now. Some people are calling it Sogogi gate (HT ZenKimchi), or you can read about the rumors more specifically here at Seoul Searching.

The best rumor has been that 94% of Koreans have a gene that makes them succumb to Mad Cow Disease much more easily than anyone else in the rest of the world.

Here is a news story about the demonstrations that have taken place because of this rumor-mongering and misinformation.

Not that mad cow disease isn’t real, or doesn’t happen – but it certainly isn’t all the things the rumors suggest.

Scientists are apparently now protesting the Mad Cow Disease Myths that have been circulating for almost two weeks now.

Also – apparently Bird Flu has just reached Seoul.

According to Yahoo Seoul officials killed all of the poultry in Seoul.

Quarantine officials destroyed 15,000 chickens, ducks, pheasants and turkeys raised in farms, restaurants, schools and homes in the capital, said Kim Yoon-kyu, a Seoul Metropolitan Government official.

Turkeys? They have turkeys here? Lies!

That’s the news right now in the blogosphere. You’ve probably noticed the flurry of posts. I don’t have any students today and I’m catching up the tons and tons of stuff that I would like to write about. Actually I’m nowhere near caught up – but let’s pretend shall we?
